Gooday birders
Midday today saw 14 Glossy Ibis foraging in shallow wetland on the west
edge of Hexham Swamp near Minmi, west of Newcastle, NSW. Some were not
feeding and appeared to be sunning themselves by, while standing,
lowering the right wing to expose the underside of that wing to sunlight
and raising the left wing, fully extended vertically, to again expose
the wing undersurface to the sun. Interestingly the four that were
sunning themselves in this manner were all lowering the right wing and
raising the left wing. I am assuming they were sunning themselves,
cannot imagine what else they were doing.
