The Birds Australia - Victoria Pelagics from Port Fairy
Unfortunately, the BA - Vic pelagics for Port Fairy have had to be
cancelled for the foreseeable future as our boat owner is quite ill and
the boat is, therefore, unavailable.
This means that all trips remaining for 2009 have been cancelled, unless
otherwise advised. I am not optimistic that the service will resume in
2009.
As many of your are aware, it is about this time of the year that I
normally take bookings for the next year's boat trips. However, until I
know that I have a boat, I will not be taking any bookings for 2010.
We are currently looking for other suitable boats on the south-west coast
of Victoria. But, they are few and far between. And, the boats we hire
need to have the proper certificates (and all the requisite safety gear)
from Marine Safety Victoria to go to the continental shelf break (which is
30-odd nm south from Port Fairy) and proper insurance. That reduces the
potential numbers quite significantly. If you have any ideas, please let
me know.
So, while we will keep looking, we are definitely struggling at the
moment.
