There of us (RD, SW and I) spent the day in the Lockyer Valley visiting
all the usual haunts for a very respectable total of 91 species for the
day. Places visited, in order, were - Bamff Rd (turnoff right just
before Atkinson Dam), Atkinson itself and the smaller dam across the
road, Boyce's Rd, Seven Mile Lagoon, Lake Clarendon, Gatton sewage farm,
Lake Apex, Helidon area - Back Flagstone Creek (Evan's bridge) then on
along that road to the bottom of the escarpment and across to the
woodland north of Helidon, stopping off briefly at Lake Galetty in
Gatton Uni on the way home.
4 Banded Lapwing on LHS of road between Boyce's and Seven Mile. Did have
12 here last September, but these were better, closer views from the
Square-tailed Kite (adult) over Old College Rd, Gatton (RHS of main road
as one approaches from Brisbane) - excellent views in flight and perched
in a conifer type tree in someone's back garden!)
Flock of ~200 Zebra Finches about 200 m past Evan's Bridge on Back
Flagstaff Creek rd. Largest no of ZFs we have heard of east of the
4 Blue-billed Duck at Lake Gallety provided brilliant views as one in
particular went for his afternoon constitutional paddle past the hide.
It is good to see Atkinson, Clarendon and Seven Mile, with water in them
again - its been a long time coming.
Very disappointing to see the damage created by the local council at
Lake Apex.
