Will you have a support vehicle? You'll have difficulty accessing any
spares once you leave Cairns. You get a few motorcyclists going up
the Cape and I remember coming across one who had problems with his
sprockets.
What's the plan, are you returning to Cairns via the barge? Have you
thought about getting to the Cape Track via the Bloomfield Track to
Cooktown, Battle Camp Rd to Old Laura, then the back roads through
Lakefield NP, emerging at Musgrave Station?
Be sure to stop off at Tozer Gap on your way out to the Iron Range -
the pitcher plants are pretty impressive, though they mightn't be
flowering when you pass through. I'd be tempted to climb Mt Tozer if
you had the time.
It is worth popping out to Captain Billy Landing and Vrilya Pt as you
go up the Cape. Somerset Beach is a nice spot to visit/camp at once
you get up to Bamaga. It is worth visiting the Bakery when you get to
Bamaga, and Seisa is also a good place to head to if you want to spend
a night in a cabin.
Regards, Laurie.

Hi, some friends and I are heading to Cape York from Cairns in 3
weeks time
and I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips on whats about up
there. The itinerary is Cairns to the tip along the main road (ie
Kuranda,
Laura etc) via Iron Range. We'll be cycling so will be going slow
enough to
see a bit of the country but unable to venture too far off the main
road.
Any advice would be appreciated (other than dont do it on bicycles,
thanks
for the concern but we do know what were doing).
