Hi Rob and Katrina,
Sorry Rob but they are definitely Bar-tailed Godwit. The length of the
bills, with the slight upward curve and the two colours (half pink, half
black) rule out any other alternative other than Bar-tailed. Snipe have
much thicker bills, and they are not pink at all (more a cream and black).
There are other plumage features you can use, as well as overall shape, but
bill is the most reliable feature on nearly any shorebird.
