When we took a camper van around Eastern Australia in Oct/Nov 2006, we had an interesting encounter with a pair of swallows at Sundown NP. We took our 4WD van down to one of the campsites at the northern end of the park - we were the only ones there. A pair of swallows which had been cursorily investigating the small wooden toilet hut immediately came over to our van and flew round and round it. After about 15 minutes they flew inside and sat on the curtain wires twittering away. Although they were quite delightful we had to shoo them out as I could see that it would only be a few more minutes before they started bringing beakfuls of mud in! After shooing them out they kept on flying around for a long while before eventually, much to my relief, they went back to their investigations of the toilet hut! Rosemary Royle Wales, UK |
