I've recorded Bell Miners in lower, fairly dry woodland in the Hunter
Valley - there was a colony near Broke the last time I was there,
about 7 or 8 years ago. It was on the edge of orchards and vineyards,
definitely on the flats, but only a kilometer or two from the small
range behind the Broke - Milbrodale Road. I can't recall seeing them
on the flatter areas on the west side of the Great Divide Range, though.

Hanging Rock, about 50kms further east, but that is a much higher,
mountain type environment there.
I watched them for quite a while and there seemed to be about three
or four of them. The site was about half a kilometre on the
Tamworth side of the Dungowan Hotel ( approx. 23 kms SE of Tamworth
NSW). At that point, the Peel River comes close to the Nundle Rd
and there is bushland on the other side of the road. The birds
were in the upper half of eucalypts quite close to the road.
I was quite excited to record a new bird for the area, but I have to
say that I hope they don't stay! I don't want all my smaller birds
to be chased away.
