Had my first visit to Oxley Common, Brisbane this rainy morning and what a
great place. I ran into Graeme Bullock photographing birds and he showed me the
dams on the eastern side of the main track. There was a Black Necked Stork my
second for Brisbane this year but best of all at the end of the track where
there is a muddy section where one dam drains into another. 1st there was a
Plum Headed Finch in amongst a large flock of Juv Chestnut Breasted Manikins.
Then while we stood there talking a Latham's Snipe landed at the mud took one
surprised look at us and flew off again. Short but fabulous view. The rain came
in and I didn't even get to check the rest of this great place. Saw the Plum
Headed Finch again on the way out and Graeme got some photos. Other birds of
some note were Black Fronted Dotterels, Bar Shouldered Doves, MistletoeBird,
many Tawny Grassbirds and some very confiding fully coloured up Golden Headed
Cisticolas. Not bad for a short moring walk.

Cheers Tony
