Hi all,

I spent the day birding at Toolangi State Forest with some really nice birds
about. These included Olive Whistler, Red-browed Treecreeper, Brush Cuckoo,
Rose and Pink Robin, Crescent Honeyeater, and there were several hundred
White-throated Needletail circling overhead. I was interested to read the list
of the "top 10 birdwatching sites around [Melbourne] town" in The Age, January
5, 2009. If I was to add a site to this list it would be Toolangi. For instance
all the birds mentioned above were seen within an area the size of a football
field.

I would also add Yarra Bend Park. This is an excellent site for parrots, with
at least 17 species recorded making it one of the 'best' sites in Australia. As
an example of this, if I had an international birding visiting Australia for a
day and she/he specifically wanted to see parrots (which they often do) the
first place I would take them would be Yarra Bend. I reckon the Long Forest,
Bunyip SF and the Brisbane Ranges are also worth considering.

Cheers,

Tim
