Yes, it's been a very good flowering year in the valley. Yellow Box
had an extended season starting early in winter and continued
throughout spring. And now as Neil says, the pink-flowering Mugga is
fantastic.
Indications are that the Regents are moving around the valley a bit.
I've had wildly fluctuating numbers from one day to the next at the
same sites. All the more reason for anyone visiting the valley to
keep an eye out for them in any patch of flowering eucalypts, and
please remember to report any sightings to the Regent Honeyeater
Recovery team (email
As for other species, Painted Honeyeaters have been relatively scarce
this year, although there have been recent sightings (last week) at
Coco Creek. Diamond Firetails currently breeding in a number of
sites. On my place, the Spotted Quail-thrush and the Painted
Button-quail have bred, with a tiny chick of the latter seen
recently! Brilliant views of a calling Black-eared Cuckoo last week
as well.
