Hi all
saw my first swifts of the summer over Turramurra today - about 60 birds
moving NW at about 12:30. I thought they were moving ahead of the change
that was due through Sydney about then, but that didn't get here until about
4:30 or 5. All were White Throated Needletails as far as I could see.
I saw them again later - about 3:30 - when I was actually watching a Brown
Goshawk circling to the north of my house - the swifts were actually dive
bombing the goshawk - I saw two or three make a close enough pass that the
goshawk had to take evasive action.
To cap a reasonable day at home, saw a Peregrine fly over at 5:45 with
something small in its beak - I thought they always flew with prey grasped
in the talons, but perhaps not if the prey item is small - and heard (but
didn't see) some Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos off to the east (St Ives
direction) at 6 pm.
Cheers
 Tom Wilson
