Yesterday 22 Oct 08 we saw our first White-throated Needletails for this season. From the Mt Mee /D'Aguilar Range (SEQ) we could see the newsworthy storm way down south over the Gold Coast. By late afternoon its edging clouds were slipping up past us rapidly, bringing strange light and cold air. Then, abruptly, the Swifts had arrived: both high-zoomers and low swoopers, the latter working the air over the trees in our garden. We could hear their calls; and the Dollarbirds were calling agitatedly too.

Always a joy to see the Swifts back, as if looking at them makes breathing easier.
Judith.
