Hi birders

Last Wednesday while walking my dogs, I noticed these small Swallow-like
birds circling low over the Penrith North (Cranebrook) baseball fields, along
the main entry road area. This is about 400m from the Woodswallows nesting
that I posted last week see:

I was observing them congregating around a small puddle and initially thought
that they were drinking as it was a rather warm day. Then when I returned
about ten minutes later armed with my camera, and was able to sit close in
my car observing them from about 4m away in the driver's seat, did I realize
they were in fact collecting the mud for their nests. Or so it seemed. I
captured a few images of these almost impossible to photograph birds. You
can take a peek at them here:

I saw them in a pack again on Sunday lunchtime with my wife as we walked
our dogs. The Martins were congregating near the toilet block area at the
end of the roadway and I had a quick look under the rafters of the roof but
there are/were no nests that I could see. It would be interesting to discover
where they actually nest as I have read that they return to the same sites
year after year. The only other place I observed them before (or at least
noticed) was at Pitt Town Lagoon about a year ago, circling over the water
hunting. Nest to impossible to capture though on camera.

Thanks and regards
