Hi birders,

On Saturday afternoon, a large flock of White-browed Woodswallows passed over Katoomba, my first for the year. I heard/saw them as I was getting in my car to head to the Capertee Valley - none seen as yet in the valley but no doubt they'll be there soon.

Migrants currently present in the Capertee Valley include Rainbow Bee-eater, Sacred Kingfisher, White-throated Gerygone, plenty of Rufous Songlarks and on Sunday I saw the first White-winged Triller. No sign of Painted Honeyeaters yet.

While quietly photographing a flower on my place, I had a female Painted Button-quail wandering up and booming only a few metres away, oblivious to my presence. (Not a migrant - they are there all year.)

The southward migration of Yellow-faced and White-naped Honeyeaters is well underway through the mountains and numbers seem quite high for the spring migration.

By the way, the Capertee Valley is really alive at the moment. Lots of lerp and flowering eucalypts at Glen Alice, Musk and Little Lorikeets flying around, and keep your eye out for Regents which could be anywhere in the valley at the moment (and please report any seen to Tiffany Mason - see my next email).

Cheers,

Carol
