It does not matter how one plays with the numbers. The facts are;
More than 0 bycatch deaths are too many.
Bycatch deaths x number of fertile births lost x number of generations -
natural deaths is way too many.

Hi all,
Trawler bycatch bird deaths must be fought against. But jumping from 30
deaths seen in five species (13 deaths; 11; 3; 2; 1) from 14 trawlers to
18,000 for a fishery seems to sum more as emotional overkill than 'crude
extrapolation'. Trying to draw meaning from samples 3; 2; and 1 seems
further to weaken the 'cause'. Any statisticians out there?
Meanwhile, spotted first Latham's Snipe of season in Ingham area today. And
the solo out-of-place Rufous Songlark is maturing well since turning up in
Tyto Wetlands on May 28.
