Eagle = Erne

Dear All,

As many respondents to my earlier post re. a 4 letter word for Eagle is indeed Erne, of Anglo-Saxon/Norse origin. It seems that one of my relatives and his mates took their own word for eagle, "egle", when they went on holiday to England from Normandy in 1066, and it sort of caught on with the locals.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
