Some time back I made a post about the WorldBirds project for
recording sightings. I have just had another look at the site to see
what is happening. Interesting to see that Malaysia, China, India and
Sri Lanka have links now. There has been quite a few postings on the
Malaysian Birders group about putting their observations into the
Malaysian database "Bird i-Witness".
I have just had a quick poke around the China database (probably the
closest I will ever get to birding in China) and it looks like it will
also be useful for trip planning as you can call up locations and
sightings quite easily. A lot of the info is in Chinese of course, but
there is enough English to be useful. There are also pictures of the
species (thankfully in English) so it would be possible to build up a
mini field guide of images for the locations you are going to and
place the images on an iPod or PDA.
