Hi Folks,

Should have got this out earlier. Last Friday Ray Gobbe and I were birding
at Maroubra close to the outdoor seabaths (and if you can’t work out where
that is or want exact co-ordinates…don’t ask!). We observed a near-adult
Sea-Eagle coming towards a group of 3 Black-Browed Albatross about 300m
away. It proceeded to harass and then seriously pursue for about 2 minutes a
Black-Browed Albatross. Eventually the eagle got a single-foot grapple on
the wing of the albatross which reacted vigorously and escaped.

Last Thursday – we saw 60+ albatross following a fishing boat going to
Sydney Harbour – all Black-Browed ex 2 Yellow-Nosed.

Saturday – a large ‘boil’ of surface feeding Australian Salmon (do not be
fooled by the name, they taste like…stringy blotting paper without the
flavour) was in front of us when a few dolphins came round the corner. 2
dolphins came closer and all at once the remainder (about 25) raced in from
all directions to rip through the fish. Impressive sight.

Have a great week – I’m back at work for the next 4 weeks so much less
birding again.

Cheers,

Graham Buchan

PS Viva L’Espana – they will need lots of luck to beat Germany!
