Hi albatrossers

We cannot expect Aus to have details of NZ's colour banding.
Of the Diomedea albatrosses with coloured leg bands from NZ islands,
Kath Walker has published a list of bandings incl colour leg bands details
in her reports on DoC's website. Potentially this will establish the actual
origin of colour banded gibsoni and antipodensis for those
fortunate enough to see such birds off our coast.

And while on albatross, a recent review of the tracking studies
of albatross may be of interest. The details are available at

I knew that to be true for leg bands but not necessarily for neck bands
which I thought might be a local study. One neck-banded Black Swan I saw
also had leg bands but couldn't see the legs on the other (swimming) bird.
Will try ABBBS. But got no answers from them re Albatrosses almost certainly
colour banded in NZ even regards cohorts.
