Hi everyone,

Just got back from a fleeting visit to Round Hill NR from Sydney, via Cowra and
returning via Forbes and Orange. We saw 106 species over the trip, including 10
birthday lifers, including bird 400! (Grey-fronted Honeyeater).

Thanks very much to everyone who provided me with information.

Highlights included (at Round Hill) Spotted Bowerbird at Whoey Tank, Shy
Heathwren (these are seriously striking birds!), Crested Bellbird, 7 species of
Honeyeater, including Grey-fronted, Brown-headed and Black-chinned, Blue
Bonnet, Major Mitchell's Cockatoo, Turquoise Parrots at Nangar NP, and some
exceedingly close raptor action. This included a Whistling Kite flushed from
the roadside and nearly causing a accident south of Condobolin, an Australian
Hobby on a post the led to morning tea and at least 2 drivers asking if
everything was ok, a Peregrine Falcon being harassed by Magpie-lark at Blue Gum
Swamp, Forbes, and a Brown Falcon at the Cowra breakout ruins.

No Whistling Kite's at Blue Gum Swamp, but there was a White-bellied Sea-eagle,
the aforementioned Peregrine Falcon, loads and loads of Pink-eared Duck and a
couple of slaughtered sheep near the bird hide. Also very suprised by a
distinct lack of Kangaroo's on the journey (3 in ~1400 km) and saddened by the
number of fox roadkill - at least 14. Not saddened by dead foxes, but that if
there's that many roadkill, there's plenty more out there running around...

Resolved to buying a new camera as my current one is... not the best. Too many
photo's that were "auto-focused" on the branch behind the bird. 3 years of joy,
and it's failed at the important bit.

Dipped on several target species, but now I'll have to go back to get those!
Now to convince my partner on the positives of camping at Round Hill for 3
days... Anyone got any tips?

Full list of birds seen available for anyone who wants one. Mail me off list.

Cheers
Troy
