Rob,
I suspect you've seen the same owls which we regularly hear and see in the same area .They first appeared in July last year and made frequent appearances in a small copse .Visiting friends managed photos of one we named Martha. On some occasions two would be close by each other, though more usually the other would respond from a distance.I'm pretty sure they breed last year as I heard three calling for a period of time. I am currently hearing one call on dusk (earlier than 7pm) (saw it couple of nights ago) and sometimes just before dawn. Boobooks are heard here almost every night, Tawny's less frequently. The same area had Sooty Owl calling between Feb and April from 2003 to 2006, though not this year.
