Mike,

You may wish to contact the Gold Coast Council for advice on Ospreys. Up
there they (the Council and the local electricity distribution company)
encourage Ospreys to nest on modified electrical powerpoles. You can see the
nests in the most urbanised parts of the Gold Coast.

I doubt that you can relocate them immediately - protected species and all,
but a properly prepared alternative such as modified powerpole may do the
trick. It would be good if we had a few such powerpoles in Sydney around say
Botany Bay.

Best regards and a great record so far south

Hi all

Just inspected an Osprey nest on a moblie phone tower in the Ulladulla area.
No eggs as yet, but a very attentive adult. I guess this must be a southern
breeding record. Does anybody know the history?

I would be interested to hear from anybody who has been involved with osprey
nesting on towers before, Is it possible to relocate the nest to a tower
nearby, or build them a special platform. Long term, the tower owners would
prefer them to be elsewhere as they pose a significant OH&S risk to workers
maintaining the facilities.

I have been searching estuaries around here for years, looking for a nesting
pair. We have plenty of large trees. Maybe they don't recognise trees
anymore.

Threatened species recovery or a shift in distribution associated with
climate change?

Mike
