This distinction isn't made in actual use.  Google turns up thousands of
people, including biologists, referring to Emperor Penguin rookeries.
Use of the term dates back to 1893 at least and includes, of course,
Apsley Cherry-Garrard's famous  "The Worst Journey in the World".
