I have written about this before but I find it amusing that it seems that
whilst I was living in Canberra I was the first to commit to a formal write up
about the increase in abundance of this species around Melbourne. This was
something that became really obvious, as I had never encountered the species
there in the 1970s and it became abundant by the late 1980s. It is clear though
that there is even more to the story than what I was able to research at the
time.

My article contains some information relevant to your enquiry.

See: Veerman, P.A. (1991) 'The changing status of the Rainbow Lorikeet
Trichoglossus haematodus in South-east Australia: the role of wild and escaped
birds', Australian Bird Watcher 14: 3-9.
