As far as I know male-male duetting is known only from some lekking
species - birds of paradise & manakins and not much else.  Lyrebirds
don't seem to do male-female duets - although given their amazing vocal
behaviour it wouldn't be a surprise.  Do you mean counter-singing between
territorial males?  Were these young males?
