I have recently returned from a trip to Tanzania and Uganda and noticed
something different about the black kites. They are very vocal and sound just
like our whistling kite. I don't think I have ever heard our black kite
vocalise and yet the field guides indicate that they are the same species.
Any comments?
By the way if you are wanting to go on a birdwatching trip in Uganda, Johnnie
Kamugisha who is "birding in paradise" is an excellent birder, with an in-depth
knowledge of calls which is so essential when birding in forest. He is also
tireless in tracking down birds. It was hot while we were there, for the first
two weeks, but we still saw 406 species in three weeks and nine species of
primates including chimpanzee and gorilla.
