Does anyone have any theories as to why this bird is so regularly seen, when
I'm told this is a very hard bird to get?
Is it merely that the layout of the pond forces it right into the open? In
places where this isn't true, do these birds still pop in and out regularly?
I'm intrigued by the fact that the bird seems to find it necessary to travel
from the middle of the north bank to the west end then back several times an
hour at certain times of the day. Could it be possible that the bird(s?) may
be collecting food then heading back to some young? Is it too late in the
season for that?
Several appearances have led people to suspect there are at least two birds in
there.

Subject: Lewin's still showing - Mt St Joseph pond, Altona, Vic
Checked the pond about 8pm tonight and the Lewin's was out as I arrived at the
southern platform, giving me a 15 second view as it moved right towards the gap
in the two reed types opposite.
Also two Spotless Crakes, but I didn't stay long.
