Congratulations to Mike Carter for being the first person ever to see 800
bird species in Australia! I suppose some of the thrill of achievement
may have been lost for Mike by getting those last few species because of
taxonomic revisions, but he saw them all anyway. There might be a few more
people who have reached personal landmarks of 700 or 600 species. wel done
to all of you - I'm still well short of that figure. I didn't add any
more to my Australian total, just have new names for a few, but at least
my world list is a little higher!

Mike has also beat Birding-Aus to the 800 mark. We have just over 790
subscribers at the moment, the highest number ever, but of course we've
had a lot more than that due to nomadic members who come and go, and
occasional 'vagrants'. But it will be nice to reach 800 concurrent members
one day. Not even Shane Warne made it to 800!

Well done, Mike!
