Ruth and I tried for the Little Curlew again form around 1200 to around 1400
today.

There were quite a few Banded Lapwings present but they were quite spread
out - from about 250 metres north of the black plastic to about 250 metres
south. The Lapwings were all at least 100 metres from the fence. At that
time of the day, there was a little activity but most were stationary. Heat
haze made it difficult to see more than 100 metres or so. There was no sign
of the Little Curlew.

We did have a particularly good view of a Peregrine Falcon - it was almost
as though it was coming to check out what we were up to. I wonder where it
nests, though, since the area is almost completely flat - could it have
flown in from the You Yangs, I wonder? Or has it found a tall radio mast
somewhere closer?

Further to Peter Shute's email, I had excellent views of the Little Curlew
at Werribee about 30 minutes after checking out the Lewin's Rail at Altona.
It was foraging actively among dozens of Banded Lapwings (also on the move)
about 150m north of the plastic marker (Richard Nowotny's email of y'day
refers) but all the birds were gradually heading south (ie, back towards the
marker bag) so start your search in that vicinity I guess.
Good birding
