I haven't been able to get down there tonight, but there has been no rain here
since the brief shower at 4pm and I assume none of that reached the drains
before it evaporated in this heat. A makeshift rain gauge I put out is still
empty, but I can feel an extremely light drizzle now. Fingers crossed.
The pond is getting very shallow now, with lots of mud at the east end.
The inlet near the northern platform, where I saw the Lewin's today is just a
trickle. I've never bothered spending much time there before, as the view is
very restricted and it's usually very boring. Any birds there will be so close
that you need to keep still in order not to scare them.
I'll be trying to get there before 6am tomorrow, and I'll send an update from
my Blackberry as soon as I get there, for the benefit of anyone who isn't sure
it's worth a trip, assuming people can be bothered checking their email at that
time of day.
