Steve,

My copy of Christidis & Boles (2008) arrived in the mail yesterday. The
Helmeted Guineafowl is included in their main list, based on evidence that
this species has persisted and bred at several locations in northern Qld.

Thanks everyone for the comments. What I really need to know is, if it
is a wild population, can I put it on my list?
My Simpson and Day Field Guide (2004) says that the Helmeted Guineafowl
is not yet included on "The Official Australian List". My Morcombe's
says something similar.
Does anyone know what "Official Australian List" are they referring to?

I think the "rules" are that they have to have formed a self-sustaining
population in the wild for some minimum number of years. Thus some
populations may be "tickable" and others are not, which makes it rather
hard!

Does anyone know the status of this bird in Australia? Can I put
it on
        my list?
