Gooday birders
Had a quick trip to Gluepot Reserve to search for local birds on the 18
& 19 of Jan, 08. Among others, plus a number for my list, highlights
were Chestnut Quail-thrush, Striated Grasswren, Gilberts Whistler,
Splendid Fairy-wren, Masked Woodswallow, White-fronted Honeyeater and
Black-eared Miner. It was very quiet for birds and the wrong time of
year for bird watching. Followed a group of about 8 Black-eared Miners.
Some had lighter rumps and some had “nearly” uniform colour across the
rump and back. All had the dark face and ear coverts etc that was
distinctly different to White-rumped Miners. Some, or even all, may have
been “hybrids” with White-rumped Miners.
