I saw the Little Curlew tonight just after 8:30 PM but it wasn't all that
easy and I thought the light would beat me. It took forty minutes of
scanning with the scope before I got onto it. In fact it took me at least 15
minutes before I even saw one of the Banded Lapwings it was supposed to be
hanging around with!
This could have been because it was quite windy and the site is very
exposed, so the birds were sensibly not popping up to look about much. I saw
the bird about 500 metres closer to Werribee than the black plastic that
Richard put on the fence when he first saw it. (The plastic was flapping in
the wind a great deal, so may have blown off by tomorrow if the wind gets
any stronger.) The curlew was associating with about twenty of the sixty or
so lapwings about 150 metres in from the fence. (South side of the road.)
