I reported the same thing on Jan 01.

I really think mine was an adult female by the strong confident way it took off 
expertly avoinding fences and neighbour's shed and both our corner bushes.

I have little pesky black ants that swarm over your feet if you disturb them.

I didn't see what my Koel was doing. I saw it being disturbed by me and then 
flying off.
