Hi Michael, The southern limit of the Marbled Frogmouth is the Richmond and Upper Clarence Valleys in northern NSW. The southernmost confirmed records are of two birds shot on Susan Island, Grafton in the 1850s-60s, which are now housed in the Australian Museum. I would suggest that your bird is most likely a female Tawny Frogmouth and possibly a rufous or brown morph as these can look like Marbled Frogmouths. If you can photograph the bird I would be happy to comment further on its identity after viewing the photos. Regards Greg Clancy |
