The main source of food, as far as I know, is uncovered municipal tips.
If these were made inaccessible to Ibis, even a few people feeding them
would not be enough to support the large population that in Sydney
relies on the Tempe Tip, or did when I lived there.
Ibis are a pest because people fed them.
People are the cause of the problem. Usually stupid people.
The solution of destroying eggs is not a solution at all. It is not
treating the cause but simply attempting to lessen the result of the
problem.
The problem is People feeding the birds.
If there is no food for the Ibis to scavange from people the ibis will
be no problem.
Some, in fact much of the feeding is intentional. Watch the picnicers
throwing food to the birds.
So is unintentional but equally stupid where people leave food at
overflowing bins or even on the ground beside bins.
The killing of native species without a permit is illegal.
