I dont actually disagree with the notion that the Canada Geese should be culled, but it raises the interesting scenario on any vagrant - if there is one Northern Pintail or Northern Shoveler or Laughing Gull or Franklins Gull or Grey-headed Lapwing then we all get excited!

But if two Laughing Gulls turn up together at the Cairns Esplenade or a pair or four Fairy Pittas at Derby should our attitude change?

Should we then get the shotguns out because they become a greater threat?

In one sense why is a pair of Canada Geese different to any other foreign vagrant that arrives here in numbers?

PS - And what of those sneaky little Spotted Whistling-ducks that have snuck into the Cape over recent times? Should we be any less concerned of them than the Canada Geese?
