Keep an eye out for Square-tailed Kite around Batemans Bay and elsewhere.
I saw one on the outskirts of Batemans Bay on Dec. 26th from the car
as I was coming in from Canberra. Not unusual and I suspect they'll become
a backyard bird around south coast towns which have high bird (prey)
densities are fringed by tall forests.
Clostest to an owl sighting has been the feathers of a butchered Galah
on a Mogo State Forest trail - maybe killed by a Powerful Owl. I had
a quick look at the trees but had to catch up with my running companions.
And for Mike Tarburton, 20+ White-throated Needletails foraging at treetop
height for at least 2 hours on 4/1/8 at Broulee (south of Batemans Bay)
a smaller number present on 5/1/8. None seen in the week previous or
subsequently.
