      A very effective solution to the problem of Gulls on yachts is to set
a few mouse traps on the decks. The traps are sprung by the gulls, dont hurt
them even if their feet are caught (they pull the foot out without much
physical damage) but are a really effective deterrent. Rat traps are less
humane. Dont use the plastic traps with serrated jaws. You can also net the
     I've also used mouse traps to keep herons and cormorants away from
fishponds, they would perch on a railing or on the edge of the pool before
jumping in a wreaking havoc among the koi, but after a week or so of
mousetraps they dont return.
