Just to add to Jill's posting, Willem Remena and I were out there this
morning and it was great to get such good views of these birds. It is a
great birding area, with some nice dams and swamps as well as nice habitat
along Stanley River, over which Cove Road crosses.
We watched the Painted Snipe (2 females, 3 males) for about an hour, and
although they were visible most of the time there were times when they were
all hidden behind clumps of grass, so keep looking if you don't immediately
see them.
A big thanks to Roy for the initial posting. As with Evan, I too am hoping
they stick around until Christmas. Couldn't think of anything better than
watching some Painted Snipe first thing in the morning, then hitting the
Guinness Tent and then a day of fine Woodford music.
On the way back to Brisbane we detoured to Bribie and on the Bribie Island
Road, just east of Caloundra we had a sighting of a Black Kite, not a bird
commonly seen around Brisbane.

Morning,
The Painted Snipe are offering good views this morning in Cove Road. Five
of them were clearly identifiable from the road alongside the fence which
runs along the left side of the dam (this was around 5.30am). I managed to
get identifiable pics, though not good. Half a dozen Cotton Pygmy Geese
are present (have seen them there many times, and think they may have
taken up residence), along with Red-kneed Dotterel.
At the next small dam closer to the Glasshouse Mtns (on a property signed
Robene), a couple of Red-knees were present with 2 Latham's Snipe. And
plenty of other waterbirds everywhere. It was a great way to
