Whilst Whiskered Terns prefer fresh water they can also feed at sea in
northern Australia. Since they migrate to PNG and Indonesia they regularly
cross stretches of ocean. At this time of year we've encountered migrating
flocks on pelagics off Victoria and have seen them passing from shore based
sea-watches.
