Martin,

I would suggest going to a shop where you can try the various scope models, a good shop should let you ty it out on various targets to find our preference. Don't own one of their scopes , but my Leica binos are excellent, very sharp , crisp and bright. I imagine there are a few in Melbourne, the birding shop or Bintel are two that spring to mind. A sturdy enough tripod will be a big help too.
