G'day Nathan,
I agree the two basic plumage birds show a surprising lot of size difference
but they both look like Whiskered Terns to me. The first year bird in the
other shots on the other hand looks like a possible White-winged Black.
Compare its bill to the others and time of year would also fit. The head
pattern of the roosting pair appear too diffuse for a common to my eye
especially on the nape and maybe not flat enough on top. The smaller of the
two just looks the same to me in bill shape. Arctic would have smaller feet
a longer wing and smaller more dome shaped head with black restricted to the
nape.

The larger of the two looks as though it might be common tern (bill shape
and primary colours), whilst the smaller maybe arctic tern (bill shape, leg
colour)?
