Paul,

Lake Malawi, in Malawi, used to be Lake Nyasa, in Nyasaland. Well, when "thelocals" were asked by one of the first explorers what that vast expance ofwater was, the answer was:" Nyasa". You guessed it - Nyasa means 'Lake!!!!i.e., we had for years Lake 'Lake', in Lakeland :-)


Or, so I'm told.
