Gordon,

Thanks for this report - yes it's a great place. This spot is also sometimes called Yarramundi Crossing - i.e. the bridge over the Nepean River on Springwood Road. It can also be a very good site for Azure Kingfisher, Nankeen Night-Heron, Bar-shouldered Dove, White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Whiskered Tern and in October 2000 there was even a Jacana there (which I reported on Birding-Aus at the time).

The nearby Yarramundi Lagoon has a birdlist compiled by the local Landcare group which includes such interesting things as Black Bittern, Spotted and Spotless Crakes, Brown Songlark, Plumed Whistling-Duck and White-backed Swallow. Come to think of it, my first ever sighting of White-backed Swallow was near there, more than 20 years ago - has anyone seen them recently in that area?

Cheers,

Carol

Yesterday my family and I visited the area at the new bridge at Agnes Banks,
and went for a walk up the river (heading south). Where there was formerly
very dense bush, the council has gone in and cleared a nice pathway.
Apparently it was work to get rid of the willows.
