I thought it would amuse some of you to see this posting to the
list. We know about the Grey-headed Lapwing
and the Red-legged Crake that arrived at Outer Woopwoop and lots of people went
a very long way to see them. I don't know how many of you have ever had a
solitary very rare bird arrive at your house and set up home basically 5 metres
from your bedroom window and stay there every day for 3 weeks, especially
without breeding involved. This is basically a first ACT record, on the basis
that it is a second record occurring only three weeks after the first, so could
be the same bird or part of a strange spread eastwards. Apart from that it is a
really nice story, has anyone got any comments about recent records of the
White-fronted Honeyeater in unusual locations. We in Canberra would like to
know if there are others out of their usual mallee habitat. (I already have the
comments from Stephen Ambrose of last month.)
Kambah is the largest suburb of Canberra, on the southern side of town and my
garden and area is fairly ordinary with about 116 species recorded within 100
metres or over the site over the last 21 years.
