g'Day all
Our first Pallid this year was observed on 03 July near Kaln Bore in the
Strzelecki Desert, North Eastern SA approx. 50 km SW of Camerons
Corner. Heard calling loudly at daybreak. For the following week
Pallids were observed daily and also heard calling frequently at various
sites where natural conditions are respondoing vigorously to heavy
rainfall several weeks ago.
Across NE South Australia and SW Queensland where the seasonal
indicators are alive, nomadics have arrived in great abundance, the
ephemeral lakes are inundated and an exceptionally good breeding event
is underway. Australian Pratincoles, Australian Dotterels, Red-necked
Avocets and Banded Plover are in large numbers across thousands of
square kilometres and breeding successfully with eggs and young, some
several weeks old seen in many areas over the past two weeks.
I will post details of highlights including Letter-winged Kite,
Black-breasted Buzzard nesting and also Apostlebirds at Yandama Bore and
also a complete trip report in the near future.
