Hi Marnix,

we've been going up there for a few years now - Oct will be our last trip for
some time! :(

Kingfisher Park is a lovely spot but my wife won't let us go this time as she
gets bored = not a birder. Do the night tour as there are some nice mammals
there too.

As for Cassowaries, I went on a half day tour with Alan Gillanders and we saw
one - forget where but a pretty public place. Also stayed @ a B&B (I forget
the name but basically across from the Insect museum which is also well worth a
look) and a cassowary appeared a couple of times.

There is also Cassowary house just outside of Kuranda. We went as clueless
birders - best I reckon to stay with the full breakfast option in the main
house as they have feeders that attract the birds. They have regular visitors.

Do try Chambers Wildlife Lodge near Lake Eacham. Good for catbirds, riflebirds
& a whole host of others (I'm a gumby birder so). Whipbirds for example. Also
pademelons. Some sites for platypus about the place too. Alan Gillanders is
good value for birds & mammals of the area.

Redmill House is excellent with access to trips on the Daintree. Chris
Dahlberg is good, though I lean towards Dan Irby nowadays. The hosts at
Redmill are lovely - lots of honeyeaters, sunbirds, etc in the garden.

I hope to blog my experiences this trip, with some stuff from other trips.
Will let people here know.

Cheers

Mick...
