Mike,

Another option is to stay at Binna Burra which is also located adjacent to
Lamington NP. They have different levels of accomodation from high level motel
rooms to tent sites. One option that may interest you is the tent huts that
they have - all set up with beds etc. It makes for a nice compromise,
especially if you don't have all the camping equipment with you.

Access to Lamington NP is just as good and O'Reilly's can be reached via the
Border Trail, which is a long but enjoyable track. The Rufous Scrub-birds
along the trail are probably pretty quiet at this time of the year but can be
found in the Antarctic Beech Tree areas. The Antarctic Beeches are worth the
walk in their own right.

If it is raining check yourself regularly for leeches - there are lots of them
about in Lamington!

If you stay at O'Reilly's go for a walk down the Duck Creek Rd - I have seen
Albert's Lyrebird crossing the road here. I believe Marbled Frogmouth are
often seen at the start of the road in the rainforest in the evenings. Further
down at the Kurrajong Lookout is a good spot for Spotted Quail-thrush and
Quail.

For other good birding spots check out http://birdsqueensland.org.au/ and have
a great time!

Carl.
