Don't forget to allow clearance charges, you'll be slugged about $100 or
so by the courier mob for paperwork, varies depending on shipper. If
it's under $1000 including freight, it'll arrive at your door if sent by
global express mail, no charges due, but if sent by fedex, DHL etc
you'll be slugged anyway as they'll collect GST on anything over $250
last time I checked and cahrge you for the privelege.
Many local agents won't honour warranties for direct imports, you would
need to check individual agents, often the agent is an independent
business and they are not re-imbursed for warnaty claims, it's built
into the pricing, Nikon in particular is quite firm about this, I
believe, they won't even repair stuff they didn't import even if you're
paying for the repairs. Check around locally as well, some places offer
a reasonable discount for Birds Australia or bird club members, Bintel
is one that used to do this.
